T40 Thinkpat won't Boot up

I am sure this problem has been talked about before , but I can't find any info on it. I have a T40 and when I try to start it up the IBM Thinkpad screen appears and then the #1 disk icon appears then the machine goes dead.. Anyone know what this is.. I am assuming its the hard drive but just want to confirm..

Remove the hard drive. Now what does it do?

It does that same thing without displaying the disk Icon.

When you say 'the machine goes dead', no indicator lights appear? No power light? Battery light?

That is correct Nothing No lights at all I have tried both with the battery in and out with the Power supply. everything goes off..

Well, you are going to have to isolate the power problem. Start by removing the RAM. You should get a 1-3-3-1 beep sequence, but the machine power should remain on. Try that and report back.
