T41p with bad version of InterVideo WinDVD

#1 Post by acz » Mon Mar 07, 2005 4:09 pm

My Thinkpad T41p model 2373-geu arrived in December. Many of the drivers and some of the system software were from early 2004, and out of date. So I looked at the matrix for the T41p, downloaded updates from IBM and installed them, mostly using the Thinkpad Software Installer. Though time consuming, it all went pretty smoothly except for one thing.

At some point, I must have downloaded an inappropriate update for the WinDVD software.
If I click on Start, then Programs, then InterVideo WinDVD,
this version loads and works: WinDVD 4.0 DXVA B11.28C14.14125.0000D00000

However, the Thinkpad Software Installer always tries to update that program with a newer version 5.0-B11.250, and the update fails every time.

At this point, I think I downloaded the update accidentally, since it is for the T42 and not for the T41p (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-54371)

So, I would like to get rid of the update, without uninstalling the working version of the WinDVD software.

Is it as simple as deleting this directory – “C:\Drivers\Win\DVD” ??

Here is the more general and useful question: once some driver is successfully updated, then the patching software is no longer needed, right? So what CAN be safely deleted from these directories:
C:\Drivers
C:\IBMTools
C:\Download Director??

Thank you.

T41p (2373-GEU, works perfectly)

just deleting the folder in c:\drivers would be fine.

Download director: after extracting the files into the drivers folder anything can be deleted.

IBM Tools: Don't delete anything from there.

Drivers: after installation you can delete the apropriate folder, but I would keep it or save it on CDRW for a fresh installation. This saves you a lot of time. Just install the Software installer first, and after that you can update any IBM driver or software within 5 minutes with the c:\drivers repository.

Uninstall the whole app and reload it from the C:\IBM\IBMTOOLS\APPS folder, then grab the new update from the website for the correct version.
