T400 power consumption

#1 Post by vinuneuro » Wed Jul 21, 2010 8:52 pm

How much power is your T400 consuming when using integrated graphics? With Win 7 64-bit, I can't get it to idle less than 10.5W with wireless on. This is with an LED screen (~35% brightness) and everything at max power savings.

Iirc, it got down to 8.5-9.5 watts running 32bit win 7.

Are any of you getting lower power consumption than this on Win 7? Is there a difference in this between 32bit and 64bit?

You're getting better than I am in most respects. I'm idling between 11-12W with wireless on. I've got a switchable GPU but am running on the X4500, brightness level 2, wifi on, but bluetooth off. I've got a CFFL instead of an LED, so that might have something to do with it. Running Win7 Pro x64. I also have a second HDD in the Ultrabay as well as both an Expresscard flash drive and an SD card adapter in my PC-Card slot as well, so those may also contribute to my power usage.

I have a similar spec T400 as vinuneuro : T400/p8400/2x2Gb/Intel5300/1400x900LED/OCZ Agility 60gb.

I can get between 7-8W ( most of the time low 7s, sometimes dip to high 6s ) with screen brightness set to 2 or 3, wifi on, BT off, and my ultrabay dvd replaced with a blank insert. With dvd drive inserted, it increase by around 1 watt.

My OS is Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate, btw.

Tony how'd you install drivers, System Update or manually? If you installed any manually, in what order?

I used System Update, with the exception of Intel Monitor file.

Also, if I remember correctly, there were couple of them did not installed successfully, and needs to be done manually.

Did you install windows updates before doing the System Update?

What Intel monitor file are you talking about? The monitor file is supplied by Lenovo. Or are you talking about the graphics driver?

Thanks.

I did system update first, and use Lenovo supplied monitor file. My T400 comes with LED screen, and when using intel monitor file, I can't dim my brightness nearly as I can with the Lenovo supplied version. I didn't know this when I did my fresh install and waste tons of time installing/uninstalling various drivers ( power manager, display driver, etc ) until I tried Lenovo driver by chance.
