Has anyone actually tried to stick a cellphone sim ( with data plan that is ) into a laptop and able to connect? If so would this only work on gobi 2000? I have a T400 and would love to get a prepaid phone with data and stick it in a 3507g.

Whether that will actually be useful will depend a VERY great deal on the policies of the 3G ISP concerned. You need to read the fine print on the ISP's market offerings.

In some cases ISP the billing for 3G data only devices is at a very different rate from 3G phones with data packs... and the ISP can tell what sort of device the SIM card is in.

Thanks Bill.

I travel to US and HK from time to time and like to have internet access. I can find wifi but it's too location limited, so I was thinking to get a prre-paid wireless boardband, or pre-paid phone with data ( usually cheaper offering, provided I only use very small data volume ).
