What is your definition of 'best' ? In terms of speed, the v5200 is the fastest performer, then the X1400 and X1300 in that order. In terms of heat generated, it's the same order.

There are also the Intel integrated and ATI V5250 GPUs. Five choices total for 14" or 15" T60's.

15.4" models only offered three choices; Intel integrated, ATI X1400 or ATI V5250.

I would like to use it for emulator games and movies.
How much more battery is saved with the x1300 compared to the x1400?
Are there any issues with the v5200? Does it suck down battery life?

What emulator games? Anything 3D intensive? If not, then probably even the integrated Intel GPU will do fine.

Same for movies. If you plan to watch HD movies, none of the ATI GPUs can't help decode them anyways (only later generations had hardware support for HD decompression), so it will all be CPU-bound anyways.

Doesn't the X1600 and X1700, which the V5200 and V5250 are based, help with HD decoding? I don't know, perhaps the drivers are not tuned for it.

Indeed you are right. In fact, I must have been one generation off - it seems that the AVIVO technology, which assists in decoding is present in all the X1 series GPU (X1300/X1400 and the FireGLs).

However, there is an obscure remark on ATI-AMD site saying that "not all products have all features", so maybe it should be looked further into.
