TP42 in Dock II - drives in both TP bays and Dock bay?
Here's a hardware question for the experts. I know the following setup is more or less impossible with a TP600X and the old Selectadock. But is it also impossible with a ThinkPad 42 and the ThinkPad Dock II?
I want to be able to use all at the same time:
1. The built-in ThinkPad hard disk.
2. A 2nd Hard Disk in the UltrabaySlim bay in the ThinkPad, in the 2nd HDD adapter.
3. A DVD drive in the UltraBay 2000 bay in the Dock II.
Any information on whether or not this is possible will be gratefully received.

That was fast...! I expected to wait until tomorrow for answers, and here are two definitive ones right now. Many thanks for this.
Now this means I should buy a Dock II - I was thinking of using a USB DVD drive, but it seems that a Dock II might be a more sensible use of the funds. (Now to find one at a lot less than the IBM price....)

For me, the advantages of having a Dock II are:
1. PCI slot
2. two extra PCMCIA slots
3. DVI
the negative is how loud the fan is. It's the loudest thing in my office (with the possible exception to a LaCie drive).
NOT FOR THE TIMID: I opened up my dock and unplugged the fan. I also removed the door to the PCI slot so the heat could get out. No problems so far, and no signs of excessive heat.

Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care.
Ejecting TP from DOCK II?
Hi Folks,
I've been perusing the Forum for a while and have not been able to find a solution to my problem, so here it goes.
I own a T41 and recently purchased a DOCK II. Currently I have a 2nd HDD in the TP bay, a Multiburner in the Ultrabay 2000 Slot, a SCSI PCMCIA card in one of the PCMCIA slots to connect my old but functional Plexor CD Burner and finally an HP L2335 monitor via the VGA connectors.
However, I am unable to eject the T41 from the dock while the power is on. I get messages stating that the Secondary IDE Channel cannot be stopped because it is being accessed by an application. I have tried removing all of the attached components one at a time without success. Any advice would be most welcome.
Thanks
Xavi

It's either the Multiburner or the SCSI card.
You can try stopping the Stopping the Multiburner first (Fn+F9) and see if you can undock. If not, then it's probably the SCSI card. If you can't stop it (also FN+F9), it's probably not a hot-removable device.
Note: SCSI cards sometimes show up as IDE devices.

Re: Ejecting TP from DOCK II?
Are you using Nero as your burning program? This is a common problem with Nero not "releasing" the burner.X-Hark wrote:However, I am unable to eject the T41 from the dock while the power is on. Make certain the Nero quick-start isn't active in your toolbar.
