Buying Thinkpad screws?

#1 Post by thinkpad1 » Mon Jul 26, 2010 8:22 pm

Where do you guys buy screws from? If you're in the USA, do you usually buy them from American sellers? I guess so, huh?

I am looking at screws for a Thinkpad T41.

Anyone (here) from Canada or other countries who buy screws on ebay? I'm just curious about taxes/duties. I figure they're cheap enough that there might not be any additional fees. I hope so....

I did a search on ebay and they seem to be about $5 to $8 total from either HK or USA. An American seller might get it to me faster, though?

Any recommended sellers?

Thanks for any info or suggestions.

You can get complete screw sets on ebay cheap (usualy from Asia) for some model of Thinkpads. For small items shipping seems to be fast from Hong Kong. For example I got in an ATX power supply tester in a bout a week after winning. Most asian sellers register the items as a gift so you don't have to worry about custom fees.

I get my screws either from eBay sellers wibony (in Hong Kong) or meditechny (in New York).
They are the same outfit and both are very fast and reliable.

thinkpad1, I hope you are getting these screws just to make the laptop look nicer so it can sell for more. From what you have told us, this T41 has given you countless problems and IMO it's not worth holding on to it for any longer. Get rid of it quickly for $100 - $150 and replace it with something that's free of issues. Any of those $300 Compaqs or Acers that Walmart etc. are selling would be more satisfying than your T41. Of the >50 laptops that I have owned, about half of them were in my possession for less than a month, because I didn't like them 100%. I tried to sell them as quckly as possible because the longer I waited, the more they would have depreciated.

As far as purchasing from HK eBay sellers, I have bought quite a few small items from them through eBay and never had any problems. Shipping usually takes close to two weeks, but that's a small inconvenience.
