Lenovo G550/Windows 7 Problem

#1 Post by vitaminsg » Fri Jul 30, 2010 11:49 am

Can someone PLEASE help me learn more about my Lenovo G550 laptop?
I am very UNFAMILAR with my Lenovo G550 laptop/Windows 7 and don't know where to turn to for help. First off - how do I know if my laptop is a 'thinkpad'?
I've had it since Jan. 2010 and have used only the internet. It is time to get aquainted with my laptop but I cannot locate the important information titled something like 'GETTING STARTED' altho' I know I did not delete it. Needless to say I cannot use any of the applications that came preinstalled on my computer.

Welcome to the forum!

While the G550 is made by Lenovo, the same company that markets Thinkpads, the G550 is not a Thinkpad. Instead it is part of the Lenovo Value Line of laptops.

If you go to the Lenovo Support page, and enter your machines Type Number in the box, yoiu should be presented with several support articles.

What pre-installed applications are you interested in learning how to use?

I think there is something titled 'split screen' but I also know there are alot more fuctions the laptop has installed. I'm sorry I don't know what they are as I have not used any of them.
If I could just get to the 'getting started' portion I'd be able figure things out.

Sounds like you just need some guidance on using Windows 7. Have you tried the Microsoft Help and Support website?

I have not even considered windows 7 as my problem. I will log on to MS website and check out help and support. I've just been on Youtube searching for instruction on my G550..finding only videos about the computer itself - nothing about the preinstalled programs. Are they considered programs?

Other than not knowing where to find misplaced instructions installed with computer, the G550 is a great laptop for the price.

There is the touch pad however I sometimes use a plug in mouse when I want to
travel a little faster.
