x41 ThinkLight .. Orange ??

Hi,

Just received a nice x41* with an orange led ... is it an official option, a bad paint job or a dying led ?
it not very efficient but gives a vintage / disco touch to it lol

*btw, i don't know what y'all think about the x41, but it seems like a sweet spot between old (31,32) and new (x60...) style X series
really thin, good old keyboard feel, low voltage cpu and fewer palmrest burns. goody

Some X41's had an amber Thinklight.

the x41 i just got has the same amber light and it seems to do the job very nicely without the glare i sometimes get from the white lights.

and yes, the x41 is a sweet little machine, IMHO it's the pinnacle of thinkpad design. could have gotten an x61 for what i paid but had one of those a couple of years ago and did not like it.

to continue digressing on this, I really feel for the old x32/43 style TP (keyboards, 4:3 form factor, non crap lcd, even the trackpoints button shape with the red/blue stripe !), but the hardware kinda gets easily on its knees nowadays and lacks power management features, and something i learned hard* late after my first laptop ( 3 years ago ) is that laptops aren't really fond of running 100%, i've never seen a small laptop (even T6X) able to do so without heating a lot; i may be paranoid but I really dont like to think of all those tiny non swappable soldered components taking so much.

As much as i dig the old, the next to come platforms really seems appealing in terms of power efficiency, computing power and nm scale wafer etching, that will means a lot for laptops. *guessing*


*of course I come from a desktop 'culture' where you have giant unbreakable boxes that never move, giant heatsink and fans, with almost everythink swappable from daughter cards, to cpu..
