Arggh! how can I get this FAN to go off?

#1 Post by nikemen » Tue Mar 08, 2005 12:23 pm

So, the fan doesn't make MUCH noise, and at least some of the latest (okay, not the LATEST) bios updates and EC updates have stopped the dreaded, whiring, increase, decrease fan problems.

But, when in a quiet library the other day, I could not get the ran to cycle down at all. I create a BM scheme, that was low everything, including CPU VERY SLOW. Made sure it was on AC settings as well, but the FAN kept on runnning, running running.

Is there a way to kill it completly?

What was that great speed stepping, or cpu stepping program called for confirming that CPU management was actually setting CPU to low.?

Mobile Meter is the program you are looking for. It's hosted at some obscure geocities site  but you can find it easily through google.

Believe me I have tried everything to get the fan to turn off and it simply won't shut off under normal circumstances. If I am in a very cold room the fan will turn off eventually, or if I use a desk fan to blow air under the ThinkPad the fan will turn off.

Some T4x do not exhibit this problem and I am not sure why.
