R51 running warm

#1 Post by jronald » Sun Aug 01, 2010 5:57 am

I bumped my wife's R51 from a 1.6 to a 1.7, and then added a gig of memory, now she is telling me it is hitting 80c at times on facebook. Is there a different fan between the two cpu's ?

Thanks
Ron

I did remember the paste, but I don't know if I used the White stuff or the Grey. looks like Im going into the thing in a little while to find out. If i did use the White, I knew there was a reason I did not like the stuff.

I've tried for a couple of days a 1.7 in the R51 (in my signature) - with the stock fan. With thermal paste applied (not AS5 - some grey no name goo) it never reached more than 60 degrees celsius. The reason i went back to the 1.6 was the barely noiceable increase in speed, versus almost 10 degrees temperature "gain"
ex: T30, TR451, TR453, R51, R52, X40, X60, R61, T400
X200 - P8600 2.66Ghz, 3G, 250G
G50-70 - 3558U 2.4Ghz, 4G, 1T

Used the gray stuff................

That said I swapped the CPU back (and broke the [censored] keyboard), then pushed the crapola out of it and was only able to get it to 65 degrees. Wonder why it does not like the 1.7?
