Advanced Mini-Dock - Part Number ?

#1 Post by JosephB » Wed Aug 04, 2010 5:27 pm

I found the below 2 Part Numbers for the "Advanced Mini-Dock" !

FRU 42W4638
FRU 42W4636

1) Does anyone know what is the difference when the Advanced Mini-Dock is ordered by under these 2 different part numbers ?

2) Is one Part number a revised firmware/hardware fix/revison of the Mini-Dock

3) Is a "US compatible" - "Power Supply and Line Cord", included when ordered with either of these 2 Part Numbers, fdirectly rom IBM Spare Parts ?

There were actually (9) different FRU #'s used for the Advanced Minidock over it's lifetime. FRU 42W4638 and 42W4636 were the latest revisions. I don't think you're going to find any documentation concerning differences in part numbers. They are functionally equivalent. It comes without integrated power supply but provides the same power jack as found in a ThinkPad, an AC-Adapter is included.

Harryc,

I was looking at some documents on Lenovo/ibm support pages and the:

42W4636 is listed as "Geography - EU1, Saudia Arabia (retail pack)"

while the:

42W4638 is listed as "Geography - United States, Canada, Latin America"

.... So, does this mean that the 42W4636 will not work in the US with US power ?
.... What's "retail pack" mean ?

I have no idea what 'retail pack' means, and I don't know about power requirements in Saudi Arabia, but I'd guess it will be a (3) prong plug instead of the common USA 2 prong plug. It will work in the US.
