TP 600X w. Windows XP SP3 IRQ problem

#1 Post by hjulian » Thu Aug 05, 2010 4:29 am

I am having problems with the IRQ distribution within Windows XP SP3 in my ThinkPad 600X (TYPE 2645-5GU).
My mini-PCI WLAN card (intel 2200BG) takes about 2 minutes to be up and running after the Desktop has been loaded. This didn't happen with another 600X and an intel 2100B WLAN card that it had. It would find and log on to the wireless network immediately.

The only time that I had it work right from startup (intel 2200BG) was when I disabled sound on startup (Fn + Backspace). The sound driver that Windows XP SP3 loads, seems to include a Game Port which the 600X doesn't have. It might be that it is included in the chipset but without an actual physical port. Probably something similar to the 2nd USB port which is included in the chipset but has no actual physical port.

Can anybody give specific help about editing the BIOS with the CMOS Editor within the EasySetup environment? Maybe there is a way to assign IRQs manually within the BIOS itself?

I disabled everything possible that I didn't need with the Configuration Utility to no avail.
I can only hope to get my PCCard (PCMCIA) slots working again if I can shuffle some IRQs around and really disable stuff I am not using to free up some IRQs.
The patch to correct the PCMCIA slots issue made no difference when I installed it.
Thanks.

Alright...I found a TP 600 docking station I had with a pile of other 600 parts and I found it has the game port. So Win XP SP3 is right in loading the sound driver with the whole thing (game port) included.

Anybody have a working wifi card (mini-PCI) AND working PCCard slots (with a USB 2.0 port, for example) in their 600X?

Brands and model numbers, please?
