Wireless not detecting

#1 Post by lotusbawa » Thu Aug 05, 2010 7:35 am

Hi,

I have an IBM thinkpad T-43. I opend it up to clean after reinstalling it i am not able to connect it to wireless. LAN works fine but in the network connection there is no icon for wireless connections. I have tried dowloading drivers from IBM website but it did not work. I have cleaned my laptop several time but never had this problem. Can someone please help me to resolve the problem?

Well, the first thing would be to open the T43 up again and check whether the MIniPCI card is properly connected.
Even if it seems to be ok, taking it out and inserting it again may solve the problem.

If you tried that already then the problem probably lies somewhere else.

there are 4 probable causes:
- the MiniPCI WiFi card is broken
- the MiniPCI slot is broken
- some component on the mainboard is broken
- the problem lies in the software

The last one is the most easy to check.
Download some Linux LiveCD (Ubuntu install CDs work fine), burn a CDR or CD-RW and boot from that disc.
If Linux recognizes your WiFi card, your Windows installation is broken.

Otherwise it's most probably a hardware defect.

Now, the next step would either be to test a different MiniPCI card (if available), or test the card in a different notebook (if available). Depending on the outcome you can shorten the list further.

Testing whether the mainboard is defect is the hardest for most of us, as only few people have a spare mainboard lying around.

After downloading the driver, have you run the setup file? What's the 7-character model number of that T43?

This is the driver:

http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc ... wc05ww.zip

After downloading it, you must go into C>Drivers>Win>Wlanint and run the setup from there.

Should that fail, try booting from a "live" Linux CD and check whether the card is recognized there.

Good luck.
