Multi-DVD burner...won't recognize certain CDs?

#1 Post by patient_ot » Thu Aug 05, 2010 12:48 pm

Ordered a Multi-DVD Burner for my T60. Popped it in the ultrabay and now I'm having problems.

The drive is a Matshita UJ-862. I haven't tested all the functions yet but was able to rip one CD successfully so far.

Now I'm trying a different CD and I can't even get the drive to recognize the CD. The CD in question is a store bought disc from 1993 (mint condition, no copy protection) and my old stock t60 drive recognized it fine. The drive won't recognize the disc AT ALL, not in Windows Explorer, Itunes, EAC, etc.

Any way to remedy this? It really annoys me that the system won't even recognize it!

Mine is a Matshita UJ-862 too, but not a problem so far, it recognized any disk I throwed to it (knock on wood). Your unit is a new or an old one?

It is supposed to be a new unit. It came in sealed blue plastic bag.

The drive says lenovo on it. I didn't buy it direct from lenovo though. My computer detected the drive manufacturer/model number.

I don't know what to say, being a new unit it should have a good laser. Maybe your CD disc is at the end of life - and somehow your new unit is not able to read it.Here or here you can find some info regarding disc longevity.

No, there is nothing wrong with the disc. As I said it plays fine on my CD player, has no scratches. It's an audio CD, professionally released by Warner Bros. It's not a DVD-R or CD-R.

If it's supposed to be new, ask for an exchange.

I have the 842 and not the 862 that you have. It works fine.

My old Toshiba Satellite was quite media picky at times, however I don't know if the situation is the same with thinkpads.
