Are 14" and 15" T4x LCD cables compatible?
Anyone know for sure if LCD cables can be swapped on different LCD sizes? For instance, can the cable from the 15" SXGA+ T42 be used on a 14" T42 also with an SXGA+ screen? Thanks.

The 15" cable might fit on the 14" machine, but you'd have extra cable length to contend with, you need to check the distance of the Thinklight from cable to bezel-position, inverter-connection position and where the cable leaves the LCD, resp. comes into the base.
My guess: dicey at best.
IMHO 14" to 15" would not work, cable too short.

Any issues with fit? Is the part with the ThinkLight too long?pianowizard wrote:I am using a 15.0" UXGA cable in the 14.1" T42 I am selling.

The ThinkLight works fine. The only issue is that the location of the lid sensor on the 15.0" ribbon is different from that on the 14.1" ribbon, and so you would lose that functionality. Doesn't bother me at all because I always get Windows to "do nothing when I close the lid" anyway. But it might be possible to get the sensor to work through some sort of a lever.goofyGAguy wrote:Any issues with fit? Is the part with the ThinkLight too long?

Thanks. This is the kind of info I was looking for, but didn't really want to hear. I'm going to put one of these on eBay, and I guess I'll just have to list it as compatible with the 15" only.pianowizard wrote: The only issue is that the location of the lid sensor on the 15.0" ribbon is different from that on the 14.1" ribbon, and so you would lose that functionality.

Except the backlight would not be turning off when the lid is down.pianowizard wrote:The ThinkLight works fine. Re: Are 14" and 15" T4x LCD cables compatible?
OK, I found some problems with the cables.
Using a T41 SXGA 14" LCD Cable does not work with 15" SXGA Displays, neither from a T42p or from a T60.
The T41 would not boot, just turns off after 2 seconds. Nothing gets damaged. After swapping with a default T41 LCD it works fine.
The 15" and 14" LCD cables are definitely different. Does anyone know what changes there are? Maybe I can modify my 14" cable and turn it into a 15" cable? I thought the LVDS connector on the LCD would be the same. Maybe the inverter turns it off?
Any ideas?
