Important X41 Tablet Kingspec SSD hint!

#1 Post by Bibin » Fri Aug 06, 2010 9:57 pm

So, I used a KingSpec 32GB SSD in my X41 tablet, hoping for a speed upgrade from my old 60GB HDD. I was disappointed that it would randomly lock up and the mouse would get all jerky for no apparent reason.

However, I reformatted it and tried a fresh install of XP Tablet again, this time choosing to format to FAT32. I also did not install the SATA power management driver or the active protection system, and all the lag is gone and it's very speedy.

Has anyone else the resources to try this experiment and report results?

You might try Windows 7...it runs very good on an X41t. Perhaps that would be an easy solution and won't take very long. If you can't find a copy (almost any version will work) you can download a trial from Microsoft.

Or, you could do the same with Ubuntu.

Good luck...

I have and tried windows 7. It performs alright, but I really, really hate the way Windows 7 handles tablet input with the stupid bar on the side all the time, and all the odd graphical nonsense they added... XP with the configuration I listed works very quickly, it's just with the other that it doesn't work so well.
