How do I run a graphic DOS application in a window?

#1 Post by Bookworm » Mon Aug 09, 2010 4:39 pm

If I click the icon for a DOS application, sometimes, especially if it uses a graphic screen, it runs "full screen", which means a small square in the middle of the LCD. I don't care if it's a 160X100 DOS mode game, I want it to run in a window, (even if it's the size of an icon) on my desktop, like all the other windows.

I would prefer to be able to do this without dual, triple, or quad booting with GEM or Windows 2.03.

Is there a way to do this?

Try creating a PIF file for the DOS program. You should be able to specify window mode, resolution, memory, etc. A pointer here: PIF FILES Be careful with PIF files, as they have been known to transmit viruses.

Right click on the icon, select 'properties', then poke around under various tabs, looking for some kind of display options of window vs. full screen. On my XP box, I looked under the 'options' tab and can select which one I want. May be slightly different location under other versions of Windows.
