Will battery be effected if I use the charger always.
Will battery be effected if I use the charger always.
About 98% of the time i use my laptop on charger. I rarely using without the charger. My battery is always connected and its fully charged to 100%-99%.
Does this effect the battery in any negative way???? A friend told me that the battery should be used up once a week otherwise it will effect the battery life.
Kindly advice me. Should I detach the battery when I am not using it????

I am curious about the same thing. How do you use the Think Power Manager to fix this so that BATTERY life is not threatenedqbektrix wrote:About 98% of the time i use my laptop on charger. I rarely using without the charger. My battery is always connected and its fully charged to 100%-99%.

crash,
In the Power Manager, click on the Battery Tab and then click the Battery Maintenance button.
Then in the Charge Threshholds, select the Custom radio button and enter in the Start charging when below: 10%
and Stop charging at 90%. That should do it.
qbtetrix,
If the battery is kept charged 100% ALL the time, the chemicals in the battery will degrade faster and the battery itself will have a very short lifespan and then you will have to buy another battery. This is bad as batteries are already overpriced.

Re: Will battery be effected if I use the charger always.
The Power Manager has idiotic defaults of "Start charging at 98% / Stop charging at 100%". The battery will remain healthy far longer if you change the "Stop" number to something less then 100%. There is minimal difference, if any, in the battery's life in 10/90 settings and 75/98 settings, and the latter are far more convenient, i.e., you may wish to avoid being stuck at some point with no AC available and the battery only at 15% because it had not started charging yet the last time you had it on AC ...
Further, one actually hurts Li-Ion batteries if one discharges them regularly below 10%. Optimally, keep the charge between 40% and the high-90s.

Interesting. Is there some thread or location where all such information has been documented and / was debated or deliberated upon in the past. Curious.. learning something new everydayEOMtp wrote:The Power Manager has idiotic defaults of "Start charging at 98% / Stop charging at 100%". Re: Will battery be effected if I use the charger always.
I have set my charge threshold settings to start charging when below 80% and stop charging at 96%, and that has worked well for me in practice since T43 days.qbektrix wrote:I rarely using without the charger. My battery is always connected and its fully charged to 100%-99%.
That's not correct for a Lithium technology battery.qbektrix wrote:A friend told me that the battery should be used up once a week otherwise it will effect the battery life.
No, you may run into some other issues with performance if you do that, and in general there's not much benefit from doing it in any case.qbektrix wrote:Should I detach the battery when I am not using it????

Lenovo offers an option to "Optimize for battery lifespan (automatically change for me)." Does anyone know what setting that uses or how that works? TIA.
