Practical Aspects of 14.1" vs. 15" LCD Screen on T
Howdy! First time posting at this forum, although have been reading this ThinkPad T Series Forum for a while now.
Have 3 questions regarding the practical aspects of 14.1" vs. 15" LCD screen on T42:
1) is the 1400x1050 resolution on 14.1" T42 unreadable for email and everyday office programs?
2) Can you work with a 15" T42 in an Economy airplane seat?
3) Can you work with a 14" T42 in an Economy airplane seat?
(heard that this is barely workable--but can someone verify this please)?
Thank you in advance for your kind insights!
BTW, this is a GREAT community/forum, with lots of real world advice!

1) It's really personal preference. However, if you have a 1400x1050 screen you can always set the resolution to 1024x768 (or adjust the font size, etc.,) if things are too small for comfort.
2 and 3) Depends if the seat in front of you is leaning backward.

I personally wouldn't touch a machine with a 1024 resolution these days but it depends on what you use the machine for - its great for email and word and stuff but I dont think its so good for spreadsheets as the more area you have to work on the better and if you go graphics/multimedia (any adobe/macromedia programs) then 1024 is pretty unusable now due to all the small windows you need on your screen at any one time.
I have less than 20:20 eyesight with my glasses/contacts on and have no trouble reading anything on screen - plus you have the added feature on the new ThinkPads of Fn+Space which will quickly lower the resolution to 800x600 and back if you ever have trouble reading something.

SXGA+ on a 14.1" is the perfect resolution. Even you have trouble seeing something temporarily you can fast switch to 800x600 with Fn+Spacebar. I do it all the time for my 65+ parents when they want to see something I'm working on when I visit.
On flights, 14.1" is just barely workable (but do-able.) I couldn't imagine dealing with 15". The problem is the height catches the seat in front of you. Luckily the thinkpads have great hinges so you can pull the keyboard close to you drop the screen back. In close quarters, visibilty isn't affected by those angles and you can still type.
edited to correct resolution naming

You've mention SVGA+ twice (in separate posts) so it looks that it is not typo. SVGA comes from super VGA and is 800x600. I haven't heard about SVGA+. Do you mean SXGA+, that is 1400x1050?cynic wrote:SVGA+ on a 14.1" is the perfect resolution. Even you have trouble seeing something temporarily you can fast switch to 800x600 with Fn+Spacebar.

Yes, I meant SXGA+ but for some reason I keep typing SVGA+geobel wrote:You've mention SVGA+ twice (in separate posts) so it looks that it is not typo. SVGA comes from super VGA and is 800x600.
