Hello,
I'm thinking about buying a R51 with a celeron 340 cpu (dothan is out of the budget)
I've found out that the R51 consumes way more power than the T41 especially with an 15"screen and the celeron. How long will the uptime be with a 9-cell battery pack?
After looking at some photo's of the R51 it seems to be a little bigger.. is the casing built from the same material as the t40/41?

I own a TP R51 (2887-58H) with a 14" LCD. The 6-cell battery lasts for about 4 hours when the power saving features are activated.
Celerons don't have the same power saving features of Centrinos so don't expect too much from the battery. I suggest either getting a second battery that fits in the ultrabay or get an 8 cell battery for longer power on the go.
The size difference between the T41 and R51 is slight and the materials used for both models is very much the same. Although the T series is much lighter than the R.

Re: R51 battery life
Pound for pound the R51 should consume no more power than the T41 does with the same size screen and battery configuration. The internal organs so to speak are very similar so power comsumption is on par between the two. As far as size goes, you are correct that the R5 is a little thicker and generally bigger than the T4 .. it also weighs more too .. and the external covers on the T have a nicer more refined finish to them over the carbon plastic on the R5.Wimo wrote:Hello,

If you want an R51 go ahead and get it. It's a great ThinkPad/PC and It not that heavy or bulky. Both the R and T series use the same components and they also use the same battery. The R series may use plastic but at least its sturdy plastic.(I don't really care what material a ThinkPad is built of because I know that its going to last long. All I care is the features of a ThinkPad.)
