t60 flashes power icons on first push, does little on 2nd

hi all,
firstly, let me vocalize how much I loath starting a new thread on a bbs i've never posted on prior, but after extensive searching here and elsewhere and also having very little in the way of trouble shooting ideas left myself, I figure I should forego and post.

so, my power supply broke a couple days ago and i've been using a loaner from my university (as my laptop is no longer warranteed). Upon the second full charge from the loaner and a short walk back from campus, I turn my laptop on and boot from hibernation. After a short time, I get a hardware failure error (pointing towards the ram) from Windows 7, and the machine is forced to shut down. Upon initial reboot, the machine hangs on the ibm boot screen for approx. 10 minutes - no beeps, etc. I then power off, and whilst trying to power on again, the batterie/plugged-in lights appear, then nothing happens. 2nd push of the power button turns on the fans, cd drive, and hard drive - but no monitor, wifi, or keyboard inputs (as far as I can tell).

things I/e tried:
- unplugging the batterie for hours and then trying
- no batterie, just a/c
- unseating/reseating ram

unfortunately, I have very little access currently to testing the replacement of certain parts via trial and error, short of buying said parts, so any (and I use this term loosely) 'non-evasive' diagnostic/resetting/troubleshooting methods which I may have overlooked would be very appreciated.

Thanks! (this was typed on a blackberry so all apologies for any weird capitals and puncuation)

Remove the battery and all RAM, One of the RAM modules on a T60 is underneath the palm rest. Use the maintenance manual for removals. Plug in the AC adapter only. Does the machine beep when powered on with no RAM? If not, try this procedure; Remove the AC adapter, hold down the power button repeatedly for 10 repetitions, and hold it down for 30 seconds on the last repetition. Release the button. Now plug in AC power only and try to power up. Does it now beep? If not, remove all drives, internal cards (like wifi and modem) and try again. If it still fails you need a systemboard, or the AC adapter you borrowed is no good. Try another.
