T23 won't power on - clicking sound, high current cunsumtion

#1 Post by Temp1911 » Tue Aug 17, 2010 5:03 pm

Hello!
i have received t23 for repairing... first it looks like loosen coils, after resoldering all
of them its became acting strange. i'm using external power supply with digital current
meter, after connecting mobo to power it draws _spikes_ of high current (4A) with frequency
about 20-30hz, also hearing clicking sounds from coils, and mosfet on the corner of B6 (pic below) warming.

tried to change few mosfets around, also MAXIM PWM controller (C5-D5) on this http://www.rkawakami.net/ibm_t2x/mobo_top_72_legend.jpg
- doesn't help.

some suggestions? thanks!

Use a proper IBM AC adapter with 16 Volt, 72 Watt, 4.5 Amp.

On that photo, there's a rectangular coil missing in A1-A2.
And there's one at C5-C6.
Did you resolder those as well?
I have fixed many T23s but never heard the clicking you describe.
