SFV files for recovery DVDs

#1 Post by crg7 » Wed Aug 18, 2010 1:18 am

Hello:

After 10+ days of work, I believe the Thinkpad utilities on my recovery DVDs may be infected.

Can any t61p owner post the SFV (CRC or md5) file of the recovery DVDs so I can check my recovery DVDs? The software is free at http://www.quicksfv.org/ and takes only a few minutes to install and run.

My t61p is 6459-CTO with Nvidia 570M 512MB, if that matters.

Thanks

What is the FRU# on the disc set? The only way someone can match md5's is if the sets are identical. If your's is a copy I don't think it can be done unless you can identify the FRU# from the DVD contents.

I created the discs from the recovery partition. Can I look in the contents to figure out the info?
Now the discs are corrupted and the partition hit by a virus.
If the problem is with only a couple of files, it may be easier to get those.

I don't think you'll have any luck matching md5 checksums with a set you've created off of the recovery partition. Did this virus occur before or after you created the recovery discs? If it was before, they still should be good. Virus's don't jump out of the machine and write themselves to compact disc :). If they could do that we'd all be in a world of hurt.

Harry:

You can assume I am comfortable with computers and technology :-)
Before creating recovery media. I tried recovering from the partition and the recovery media, several times, wiping the HDD before each attempt. Tried various combinations before narrowing down to the recovery partition and media. Of course, this had to be the last possibility :-(

Coming to matching md5's, at a minimum this will throw up some files with different hashes and narrow the field. Open up possibilities till I get hold of the recovery media from another source.
