Hotkeys question
Hotkeys question
Lately, there have been a few occasions when my hotkey functions have performed sluggishly. For example, when I hold Fn and tap "End" to bring the screen brightness down, I have had to tap the End key a lot more times than I usually have to. It hasn't been limited to screen brightness control; other functions have been wacky, too. Till now, rebooting has fixed it each time. Is it a fluke (some program interfering)? Do I need to reload the operating system? Or is it the sign of more serious problems? TIA.

Re: Hotkeys question
I would try to uninstall and then reinstall the hotkey utility program. Do other keys behave normally?
Re: Hotkeys question
Even the hot keys are working okay for the most part, Harry. It's just happened a few times, and I'm hoping that it's just some program like aim, skype, or yahoo interfering with the computer and its proper operation. Like I said, whenever the "stickiness" of the hotkeys has happened, a reboot has cured it. I'm just hoping no one has bad news like "That means your mobo's on its way out."

Re: Hotkeys question
Tried running Task Manager? Bring up TM, go to Processes and sort by CPU (click on CPU twice), then see what happens when you hotkey. You can also watch the Performance tab, but that doesn't identify the culprit. If nothing's chewing up resources, maybe it's the keyboard?
Re: Hotkeys question
Good suggestion. I'll try that the next time it happens. The behavior does resemble the way a computer acts (especially the way a mouse acts) when a processor is maxed out.mediasponge wrote:Tried running Task Manager?
