T30 Motherboard Identification - NOW SORTED

#1 Post by chris301up » Sun Aug 22, 2010 12:23 pm

:( My T30 has recently given up on me and I can assume from reading many posts that the fault probably lies with the RAM modules?

I was intending to replace the Motherboard, but after disassembly cannot locate any part numbers.

Can anyone advise further?

Thanks in advance.

The P/N should be on the bottom.
If the mobo were still in the laptop, you'd see a white 'flap' where the wifi-card is located.
The P/N is on a sticker on that white flap (unless someone removed it...).
From your Type/Model (e.g. 2366-85U) and the HMM http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-42308
you can also deduce your mobo P/N.

I think I have found it? FRU P/N 26P8328

Does this sound right?

Will any other M/Bos do the job, or do I have to replace with the same part number?

Thanks

26P8328 (with security chip) is also available in a newer revision as 91P7692.
You can also look for the same mobo but without that chip: 26P8205 a.k.a. 91P7689.
Nobody really uses that security chip, so either mobo will do.
There's another type mobo (Assembly 2) for the T30, but that would also require different parts, such as the CPU cooler, so don't bother.

Thanks for your advice.

I have found a possible replacement and have been advised the number is: 91P7212 - PC4.

Does anyone know if this will replace mine?

Thanks

Why don't you download the T30 HMM, all the info is in there, incl. the fact that said number is not suited, as I indicated before.

Thanks for your advice - but excuse my ignorance. What is a "T30 HMM"?

I'm more than glad to be of help.

No apology need. The computer world is full of acronyms, some of which can be a little confusing at times.
