T60 power up issues

#1 Post by multinetting » Tue Aug 24, 2010 8:52 am

Hello,

This is one of those 'if you were here you'd be able to give a better answer' moments!

However, here's the issue:

My son spilt a drink on my T60 on the keyboard - lemon juice. My wife picked the laptop up and lay it on its side!

When I got up, it worked ok. Then, the screen started to flicker. Whilst that happened, the network card just 'disappeared'! Internet no more. Then the screen got progressively worse and cut completely. I disconnected battery and cable. Removed keyboard, it looked ok, but I ran some proper cleaning fluid under the keys to stop them sticking. The board area looked dry.

I left it for 24 hrs and connected it up. Now, it is just so random what happens!

Sometimes no power lights. Sometimes just 2. The power button does nothing most of the time. Last night it started the boot sequence, screen came on, then it died. This morning it doesn't even work.

Do I scrap it and get another machine(ouch! ), or is there something I can still try? (I did the 10 times 10 seconds and 1 times 30 seconds bit).

p.s. So much for anti spill!

Lemon juice is both acidic and potentially conductive if there was sugar in it. The acidity will corrode whatever it hits, and the sugar will short out any circuits it crosses. If problems continue your only hope is to completely dismantle the machine and wash the systemboard in distilled water with a soft brush and then let it dry for several days. Then reassemble the machine and see what happens.
