Almost daily now I have problems with reaching TPF.
These outings last up to several hours sometimes!
Maybe this error message may help to trace the cause:
Code: Select all

Hmm, forum.thinkpads.com isn't loading right now.
The computers that run forum.thinkpads.com are having some trouble. Usually this is just a temporary problem, so you might want to try again in a few minutes.

I don't believe this is a problem with TPF server, the forum works without any hiccups here.

I've come up against the DNS error several times recently as well. I don't recall the outages lasting for hours, but they very well could as it's usually hours before I will check back again.

Don't bother with OpenDNS. There's no good reason to use them over public resolvers like 4.2.2.2 - 4.2.2.6

I have removed OpenDNS and replaced it with: obtain automatically...
See if that improves things.

It's what I using last night when I also received the OpenDNS page about TPF not being accessible. All of the other sites I went to at the same time were working so I'm sure it was something to do with this site's servers. The "outage" lasted only a few minutes around 11pm (PDT).

I have yet to find a problem with the 4.2.2.1 - 4.2.2.6 range. They're anycast, so they'll likely be quite fast (often < 50ms) and they don't do any of the filtering or advertising tricks that OpenDNS does.

You might want to use the
Down for everyone or just me website to see if any problem is widespread or specific to your particular Internet access arrangements.
Cheers,

Interesting! I was just reading that OpenDNS uses Anycast themselves.

They do indeed. They also return advertising-filled pages instead of NXDOMAIN errors, break the DNS specs, and even have (at times) tampered with results for Google domains, hence my strong dislike of them.
