Have you tried installing the lenovo power manager?

This has excellent battery information and general power settings
T23 [2647-4mu]- daily driver
T40 [2373-nu3]
X41 [2525-3cu] - 16gb CF SSD

^^^
At the risk of straying off topic, may I ask why you downgraded to XP from 7?

I'm thinking of upgrading my T43 to Windows 7 after having been on XP for years. But I haven't seen a lot of compelling reasons to do so.

nice question! id be glad to answer.

i get ms products from my ieee subscription so there was nothing holding me back from taking a good look at xp again, since cost wasnt an issue

over the months and years i found the features intrusive and unnecessary eg home groups feature while i learned from it, the simple workgroup +remote desktop of windows xp worked well and was enough.

secondly the network performance is awfully unpredictable in windows 7. sometimes u r zooming along and at other times im forced to use remote desktop just to run the internet. The pings are unreliable sometime 1ms sometimes 20 sometimes 2000 for no good reason on the same setup.

the libraries (virtual folders) is excellent way of keeping track of things but frankly i didn't need it, it was again a good learning experience but i prefer simplicity of XP search

my laptop runs a good 10 degree celcius cooler on xp. 57C on win7 and 47C on XP.

then i checked winxp still has 60% market share, and thats probably for good reason. So i switched, i'm taking my i7/quad core systems to xp as well, since im not short on xp licenses.

There are more reasons but the networking was the final tipping point for me. i would have done it earlier had it not been for the ability to install win7 from the USB drive. I just decided i'd had enough, got my cd drive in order and replaced the OS.

this is subjective so take it with a pinch of salt, but coming back to xp i realise how shackling and locked in the feeling was while i re experience xp. i wonder why i tolerated the abusive relationship with windows 7 for so long

Many thanks for the extended reply.

My concern in migrating to Win7 focused on higher operating temperatures. And for a 5-year-old machine, I don't want the main components on the motherboard to start "wandering" around. I hope installing Notebook Hardware Control two months ago will avert this and extend its life.

OK, back on topic....

Hi,

I had Win7 on one of my T43s. I did not notice any temperature change. The parts I did not like about Win 7 was the networking and the libararies.

I do all of my saving of files with folders and sub folders (Old School). I do not like Home groups at all. so I got restore disks for it and went back to Win XP. It was more comfortable to use.

By the way I started with TRSDOS on a model III Radio Shack and learned programming on a IBM System 34 and Radio Shack Model II... :D

mnr! really nice to meet like minded person! im surprised how we both found libraries and networking and issue. i have a t42 so maybe the temperature difference was slightly more in my case. :)
