wifi switching problems.

#1 Post by irus » Thu Aug 26, 2010 1:30 pm

when i switch from one wifi router to another in the same room it goes in a connect/disconnect loop and the only way out is to restart the system.

what could be causing this problem? its a t42 wifi card 2200 bg

additionally computers and routers have static ip.

there is no problem when wireless network is run in unsecure mode.

problem occurs in wpa-psk2 security mode.

Are you running Access Connections? Try uninstalling it and using Windows networking.

ok latest update is that ipconfig returns "An internal error occured..." and the only work around to switching wifi networks is to disable security. dhcp/security/wifi channels/winsock2 repair nothing has worked.

oddly the ip address resets itself to 0.0.0.0 on its own.

is this a hardware problem?

I would boot up a Live Linux CD and see if the problem persists.

formatting worked temporarily.

i read online the issue was because of corrupt tcpip.sys file which was because of some trojan horse in the iso of windows xp if downloaded from an untrustworthy source.

so i used a fresh iso from microsoft.

but now it seems like the nic card will need a replacement. before that ill try ubuntu once.

Try the Lenovo driver, even though it is downlevel.

Try replacing the card then. I can't think of anything else to try. Let me ask you. Is there a possibility that these two routers in the same location are running on the same channel? The second question is why do you need to switch between them?

one router is closer to where i work in the house but its not on power backup. the other is farther away and i get a weak signal for it but it has powerbackup. so sometimes when the mains power fails i switch to the other router. i could do this seemlessly till a while back, now i need to restart xp.

yep ill give ibm a call, this laptop is in nbd warranty. maybe it is the nic. ill post whatever happens.
