I have a T41p and love it. However, it has somehow gotten dust or dirt behind the screen. The first was a speck about the size of a pencil lead. Yesterday, what appears to be an eyelash appeared as well.
I say these items are behind the screen because if I move the mouse cursor over them, it's obvious there is some depth to the screen and these specks are clearly behind the cursor, some slight distance behind them.
I'm assuming that the items are getting behind the LCD panel but I can't figure out how. I've blown air into whatever crevices I think might exist around the screen, but nothing works.
Is there anyway to remove these items other than sending the laptop back to IBM for service? Have any of you experienced anything like this?
Dust / dirt behind screen
Actually the are particles...
Batuta,
First, thanks for the reply. Somehow items are getting behind my panel, as the "eyelash" item has moved; it has now fallen towards the bottom of the screen. These aren't shadows that follow my cursor. They're fixed items that are behind the cursor if I move it over them. All windows float over them.
I just can't figure out how these items are getting in. One is a big dust ball and the other is clearly a hair: either an eyelash or a beard hair (as I do have a full beard.)
Anyway, I may just have someone from IBM look at it. I'd rather just fix it myself but I don't want to damage the laptop or void the warranty.

Good decision. If you have a new laptop, don't risk damaging it. If it's under warranty, take advantage of that. It's rather odd what you can get past with support, I hear of people replacing entire screens just because of one or two dead pixels, yet, somehow, IBM does not see fit to replace my IBM G52 desk monitor despite the fact that it almost caught my house on fire! They say I'd have to pay to fix it because it's not a G51.
