Computer got stolen
My beloved T60 was stolen today. I have the think vantage software installed. Can I disable the hard drive in my computer remotely?
Re: Computer got stolen
Only if you have an active computrace subscription
Re: Computer got stolen
I have an similar question related with data security, if I have:
1. enabled HDD password (Hitachi 7K100 with IBM's firmware)
2. installed client security solution with TPM (Embedded Security Subsystem) enabled
3. password manager in use, secured with both protection (password, fingerprint)
4. currently using Windows XP Professional
5. my Windows password is strong enough I think
Can somebody access my data if I will accidentaly lose my ThinkPad or it will be stolen? Do you suggest to turn the Power-On password on for better security? Thanks.

Re: Computer got stolen
If your HDD password is different from the Supervisor and/or Power-On password, the data on the hard drive is not accessible, unless in a forensics laboratory.
But hard disks are cheap to replace...
And Thinkpad passwords and/or passphrases can be removed with the right equipment.
So your data on the hard disk is safe, but the laptop is not!
