T20 Speed & Drivers Problems

#1 Post by Elwyn » Wed Sep 01, 2010 4:44 am

Hiya Folks

Well, I've got a T20 here for some diagnostic stuff (as it has a serial port) and I've got a few problems.

1. The battery won't charge. If I take it out and put it in, making sure it is locked in the icon either goes to orange then flashes orange after a bit or just flashes orange straight away. I've not found a way to get it to charge, even if it says it is charging. Which is annoying. I've ordered a replacement new genuine battery from Ebay.

2. Drivers. I don't have any. Luckily XP has recognised most of the stuff in there. But the Thinkpad and volume control buttons under the screen don't work. I'd like to get them working. I've scoured the IBM and Lenovo site but as soon as I get close I get a 'sorry we couldn't find this' message and suggested ways to help, none of which work.

The processor power is reported at 436 Mhz and none of the acpi/power drivers are installed, so it's running at half speed. That's nice for the battery but I would like a tad more control :D

It is a 700Mhz version apparently ;)

Anyway, TIA ;)

Thanks for the links to the drivers. They've now been downloaded and installed.

As yet the thinkpad & volume buttons still don't work and the speed won't go past 600mhz on 'fastest speed'. However, it has previously reported being a 700mhz machine.

I've ordered a replacement battery for it as well...

547Mhz is what it is reporting with the speed settings set to 'max performance'. However, I'm probably going to go via the seller as it was reported as an 800Mhz machine and is actually a 700Mhz machine :(

Edit: Ah ha! I have found the reasoning behind this. Because the battery is faulty/not charging the processor speed has slowed down to 550Mhz.

T20 @ 550Mhz

The BIOS on this machine is 1.21 (21st Dec 1999). However, I've also found out that it has 2x128mb memory modules on board so will require 2x256 to go higher :o
