Hi, all,
My husband has been using our T41 as a backup computer and something has happened to the keyboard -- about 8 keys down the middle of the keyboard are stuck. I can't even log in to windows because my password uses those keys.
I'd like to solve this problem as inexpensively as possible but am not sure what to do. Since so many keys are stuck, and since I can't even get to windows at all, I'm thinking that we need to either repair it or buy a new keyboard -- but can we install it if we don't have access to windows? I'd appreciate all advice.
Thanks!
Smartest way to solve stuck keys problem?
Re: Smartest way to solve stuck keys problem?
Unless something was spilled or dropped onto the keyboard it is most likely an electrical problem. You can try reseating the internal keyboard connector, and if that doesn't work you can replace the keyboard quite easily. It only requires removing a few screws. Use the hardware maint. manual for removal. If you need a new keyboard post a WTB Ad in our Marketplace forum. You don't need access to Windows to replace the keyboard.

Thanks, Harryc, for the helpful advice.
I know you didn't want to insult my intelligence, but would you mind directing me to a place where I can find out how to reseat the internal keyboard connector? I tried googling it but didn't come up with instructions.
Thanks!

Hi Mary,
Click on the link in Harry's post and then download the HMM pdf. In there you will find detailed instructions on how to remove the keyboard. It will then be obvious how to remove and re-seat the connector.

Just downloaded the manual. Hope that does it!
