Can't you just upgrade the RAM and HDD in your T41 and buy a MPCI wireless adapter? Much cheaper! As for the fingerprint reader, it's not essential and definitely not worth shelling out 1000's on a new machinem for!

You should get plenty of decent T42 deals at the moment....

What will you be using the machine for?

This is the best time for the price curve on the T42/T42P. In addition, they are discounted as the "previous model", but the new model is not that much different. You rarely have a price/ performance point as good as this. Contact Bill (host of this site). He has some great prices on T42/T42Ps, and can ship to you with no sales tax.

one last question

I have finally decided on gettint t42 after going thru teh forums pdf's here.

I wanted to know if I needed to get a bigger HDD from IBM and a bigger RAM from IBM and a larger Video RAM or do u suggest it to buy it on ebay?

Will it be pretty easy to get it installed?

With EPP you should be able to get a good discount with only upgrading RAM.
Consider 2373M3U w/ 60GB 7200 drive
or 23739XU w/80 GB 5400 drive

check www.pricewatch.com for prices
or buy from www.zipzoomfly.com or www.newegg.com

I'd go with the T42. IMO the T43 doesn't provide that much of a performance boost, and a lot of the Sonoma platform features like SATA and Intel High Definition Audio aren't even being used in the T43!

The T42 is also a well tested and proven platform.

I got my 9XU through school at $1649 tax (8.5%) included.

7200 RPM gives somewhat better performance -- perhaps 10-20% or more increase. If you search the forum you can get more info.
