W7 is Unable to determine your system configuration

#1 Post by mpcook » Sun Sep 05, 2010 12:46 pm

Since upgrading to Windows 7, on two TP's, I cannet get the Lenovo website to detrect my system. I get the error below every time. It seems to install an Active X control, but doesn't work. I have the latest java, and have Active X allowed in the security settings. Any ideas anyone?
Thanks
Mike

i guess the first thing is to make sure you're using the right version. windows 7 needs version 4.00.0024. go to control panel, programs and features, scroll to system update and to the right it will tell you which version you have. xp used version 3. if you have anything other than version 4, uninstall it and download the version above. i'm thinking that you have version 3 for xp and that's why it's trying to install an activex control.

I have version 4 of System Update, and everything is updated excep the fingerprint software, which I do not use.

are you using the toolbox to determine the config? i just put 7 professional on an x32 and i installed toolbox. well, it wouldn't work right for me so i uninstalled it. i want to put it back on and i just haven't done it yet. i downloaded pcwizard to determine the config. i'll put toolbox back on and post back.

Both Toolbox and System Update work fine. It is when I go to the website and click on the button to automatically to detect my system that it fails.

Mike, I would report it as a problem. I am not on W7 at the moment, but I will check it later on.

I reported it on the website. I am curious if anyone running Windows 7 is able to get the website to "detect my system".

I thought it might be a Windows thing, but since it happens with XP for you, maybe it has to do with Java or some setting in IE.

it works in xp again. i had to have automated solution inline executive. but it still doesn't work in 7. i even disabled the security settings and it installed an add-on but it didn't say what add-on. and then i got the same dialog box. maybe somebody will jump in here and say whether it works in their windows 7.

Here is my reply to Lenovo's reply:

To: 'elecqaus@us.ibm.com'
Subject: RE: <Commu>:Lenovo email response to PRID#:CR%DDBB-892QAWCR%

Thank you for your reply. I have tried all of the things you mention in your email. I am using IE8 with Windows 7 installed from Lenovo disks on my T400s. I also have a retail Windows 7 install on my X60s with IE8. Both have the same problem in that your website cannot detect my system for warranty status or driver downloads. I do not get a prompt to install the Active X control any longer, so I think it is already installed, but not working. If you can send me the control, or it's name, maybe I can see if has been installed. I have all of the security on Active X controls turned off as well, so it should install and run. It has worked fine in Windows XP on both of these Thinkpads, so I suspect an incompatibility with Windows 7.

Thanks for your help in advance,
Mike

Dear Mike Cook,

Thank you for your feedback. Please make sure that you are using Internet Explorer (IE) to ensure the website to "Auto detect" your system. If you are using IE and still did not work, kindly clear your cookies and cache and try again. You will need to install the ActiveX control for the "Auto detect" function to work.

Please do feedback to us if the solution helps.

Thank you for contacting the Lenovo Web Content Team.

i did everything, deleted browsing history, cookies, turned off security. when i click on auto detect it gives me the same dialog box but up above in ie8 it says to install the active x control. so i do and it gives me the same dialog box. if i do it again, it again wants to install the same control. the name of the control is Automated Solution Inline Executive. being that it wants to install every time i click auto detect, i get the feeling that there's something wrong with the control. like maybe it's not quite installing.
