Thank you! It worked perfectly. Now, why did it happen in the first place?

Edit 20 minutes later. After a successful run, the error returns as do the changes in the registry. Re-editing the registry solves the problem for one run and then the registry errors come back. WTF???

Can't say if your problem is the same as mine, but yesterday I was doing a fresh install on a T30 and got the same error 75. I discovered that the replacement motherboard I had put in didn't have the machine type or serial number in the BIOS. Re-naming the registry entries only works until you reboot, if the numbers are not in the BIOS. You can use the Thinkpad Maintenance disk to restore the numbers.

Could that be the case with yours too?

Yes! Machine got a new motherboard today. Now, where do you get a Maintenance Disk?

Lenovo has withdrawn all the HMD files from circulation. I've hit every link in every thread your link led to. No luck!

As a mod would say, don't ask where you can get them. You can't discuss that here.

Just to go entirely off topic.... as a general comment....Google is a beautiful thing.

I hear you. Even though a previous reply to the original post contained this thread, http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=12263, which is an extended discussion of the HMD, its use and where to find it, I understand your caution.

Moderators, please consider this thread ended. I have found the solution and this thread can be locked.

Thank you to all who replied.
