New Bluetooth Card Out?
I noticed with the release of the new T43s there was a new bluetooth software that was put on the update site. I tried it with my 2373-KTU which has the IBM Integrate Bluetooth III and it didn't work since I have the wrong BT card. So this brings me to ask what the new card's fru number is, the price, and the specs on it.
Any insight on this would be great.
Thanks in advance!
If you go over to the "General Hardware Board," yes I did post this there but I didn't get an answer and since people that post on this board look at T43s I thought you might know.

I just got off the phone with and IBM tech person and found out that there isn't a new card out for the T42p and since IBM put that lovely "un-authorized part" checker in place with our bios I am not able to upgrade to the card that is in the T43. Does anybody know how to get past the checker or have any new ideas for upgrading the bluetooth card or getting the current bluetooth card to work with a new stack and recognize it when I boot up my laptop?

What's the difference with the new part? Does it implement the 2.0 spec? Maybe add the A2D profile so I can use this gorgeous wireless hi-fi stereo headset? (http://icombi.nanzzang.com/product_01.asp) Slobber, drool...

My understanding is that the Bluetooth protocol version 1.1/1.2/2.0 is a property of the software "stack" and not of the hardware. On devices of course this might be firmware, and thus harder to upgrade. But on a laptop I think it's just a matter of installing a newer stack. Can anyone confirm this? I am finding the whole BT world very confusing.
The same thing with the different profiles, I think. The A2DP profile for nice stereo sound can be added to any BT card with the right software.

The bluetooth card is just an usb device with a proprietary connector, I would be surprised if IBM's bios went through the hoops to check the authenticity of any cards. Because of the thinkpad-specific connector there are no non-IBM parts, so what is there to check?
This is completely different for the wireless lan mini-PCI, which has a standard connector and other cards are widely avaliable. Since apparently some misguided lawyer thought that the FCC mandates a check for foreign cards, there is at least a reason for why we need no-1802.com

It's been confirmed that IBM does check and disable non-IBM parts - especially the Wi-fi card. It sucks royally, but is probably marginally better for their tech support.Volker wrote:The bluetooth card is just an usb device with a proprietary connector, I would be surprised if IBM's bios went through the hoops to check the authenticity of any cards.
