key words: s partition, system drive, system_drv, pre-windows boot operating system, blue thinkvantage button, new drive hdd ssd, copy
Hello. I wish to install a new drive. There is only 1 drive bay on the Thinkpad but I have access an external optical drive and USB connected drive enclosure.
How can the ~1 GB partition containing Lenovo specific pre-Windows OS (often times designated as the S partition in many systems) be copied over? It's too useful to not have. Is there anything else one should be aware of, or perhaps is there a guide on how to re-build your Lenovo system on a new drive?
Or am I stuck with whatever original drive if one wanted to retain it?
I've performed Rescure and Recovery from the Q partition before which affects only the C drive. The S drive seems to be something special.

COPY - ( REIMAGE ) is what I think you want to do...... as if u do a 'copy' often there are files/data that wouldnt be copied due to 'rights' issues.
I have in the past done a few of these ( from what I think you are trying to do ) and used this Applications ( I jsut downloaded the DEMO version whenever I needed it ; worked file)
http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/pr ... index.html
Once your have the APPS installed , you can pick WHEREVER you want to REIMAGE (copy) that partition to ,,,,,, with all the 'rights'.
worked nicely for me.....

Reimage - Would that be another word for "clone"?
I've been doing some searching in this forum. Cloning seems to be the only topic remotely relevant to what I want to do. They too mention this Acronis software, whatever that this.
I guess a more basic issue is whether the S partition should be cloned at all. I'm under the impression it is essential. Anyone else care to comment?
