Is it possible to determine a REV 3 motherboard visually?

#1 Post by alkemyst » Sat Sep 11, 2010 9:35 am

I have a new motherboard. I don't want to go through the problems of the full swap if it's not going to support my T7200.

Is there a way to visually see this on the board itself, or is there a date cut off that's known (the bottom bezel states 6/2006, my current Rev 3 board has a 07/2005 bottom bezel)?

Thanks

Å

There is no way to tell from the outside. I can say that I've seen lots of boards and all were REV3. I will also add that BIOS support for newer CPUs was added after the initial revisions. I have seen boards that needed to get a BIOS update in order to work with core2duo CPUs. I put in an older CPU, flash, and then put the later CPU in, in those cases.

The reason i asked was that motherboards with certain part numbers are sure to work with core 2 duo processors. Your motherboard's part number doesn't belong to that group of part numbers. This doesn't mean that it won't work with a core 2 duo processor, it only means that i can't make a guarantee - based on motherboard part number - that it would work with a core 2 duo processor. It could well be that it will work with a core 2 duo processor all the same.
