T410s touchpad problems and middle button loss

#1 Post by Dyd » Sat Sep 11, 2010 8:17 pm

With a T410s, after a while I would lose the touchpad and the middle button. The trackpoint, the right and left buttons would still function. Going into the task manager and ending the process: "SynTPEnh" or the Synaptics touchpad enhancements would bring back the touchpad, but no scrolling/multi-touch or the middle button. Everything comes back to normal function with reboot.

Tech support in Georgia hasn't been helpful beyond reinstalling the drivers.

I have been uninstalling programs/not running certain things to see if I could figure out the culprit. I believe it is the tpfancontrol. Uninstalled that and have been running no problems for several days now. I've been thinking about how the touchpad would stop working, it would happen without warning or any specific action.

Anyone with a similar experience?

Yup, with my T410. I posted about it here: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... 79&start=0

Thanks Gary/nikki for the comment, though I think our problems are slightly different. I didn't have bluetooth enabled and I lost total function of the touchpad. I think the Synaptic drivers are pretty poorly written to be malfunctioning in multiple ways. Here's to hoping for updates.

I'm wondering if anyone else had conflicts with their touchpad and tpfancontrol? Just a suspicion I have right now (been running fine for a few days now that I've uninstalled tpfancontrol...miss the silence though)

Update:

After several days, the touchpad locked up again. I did not have the tpfancontrol running, so it must be something else. I was in firefox reading espn.

It could be FF, or any one of many add-ons:

Adblock Plus 1.2.2
BetterPrivacy 1.48.3
FireGestures 1.5.7
Greasemonkey
JavaConsole 6.0.21
NoScript 2.0.3
Omnibar 0.7.1.2
ThinkVantage Password Manager 3.0

I thought FireGestures would be the likeliest problem-maker, I already tested for that. I noticed this time that when the touchpad locks up the arrow keys act as if the 'ctrl' key is locked down.

Maybe its Windows sticky keys? Maybe it's FF/add-ons? Maybe if I disable the multitouch features the problem won't occur?

If anyone has input please help me figure this out

I was having the same problem with my T410i. This was really annoying but luckily I found workaround: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-a ... 238#M32110

I had this problem somewhat regularly, where the touchpad would freeze but the trackpoint would continue to work... I solved it by updating the driver to build: 15.1.19.0 (despite my system saying that the driver was up to date... it was not the newest one at lenovo.com)
Specifically - "Fixed an issue where the touch pad crashed on the Firefox browser when PinchZoom / Two Finger Scrolling continually."
I did this two weeks ago, and have not had a touchpad crash since (and the two finger scroll works better as well).
Hope it helps.
