Getting an X60t for the screen res, bad idea?

I'm looking at getting a "new" X series, an X60 or X60t (for the 1400x1050). I don't need the tablet functionality but I do care about the screen res. I'd considering doing the SXGA in to X60 mod but cost wise (and difficulty in acquiring parts) it doesn't make much sense. Are there any defects in the X60t (or any other reasons) that would make it less desirable than the X60?

The X60 Tablet is slightly thicker and heavier than the regular X60, I think, but not by much.

I largely got the X60 Tablet for the higher screen resolution, though I occasionally have made use of its tablet features.

The batteries and docking stations are slightly different, and I expect the tablet versions will become rarer and therefore slightly more expensive over time.

But I wouldn't call any of these things defects.

Tablets have a smaller capacity battery and a higher power consumption for some reason. So expect about 25% less battery life. It's also a good inch bigger in footprint, and a bit thicker. The latch is not great, they all seem to be broken to an extent so be careful about that. Or get one with warranty so you can get it fixed.

I got a tablet for the screen res and the quality (IPS panel) just now. So far so good. Yeah it's bigger and more expensive, but there is not a whole lot to choose from, even outside Thinkpads.

I did it, too. Worth it. The tablet is no porker, so I don't really consider the extra weight a big deal - it weighs about the same as my 12" aluminum Powerbook.

I also got the tablet for the screen resolution. Love it. Take it with me daily, took it with me on a few trips where it performed great. Also very sturdy, got hit by a car and fell, bumping rucksack with it on the ground. Had depot replace palmrest and monitor casing and it was like new again. Motherboard, screen, HDD survived.

You have a few choices here: X200s with 1440x900 has crappy TN screen. You can mod X200 with AFFS screen but only 1280x800. X300, X301 1440x900 screens are not so great. X200/201 tablet has only 1280x800 resolution. T4x Flexview is too old, T60p Flexview is a good choice but can only take 3GB and is 15". W510 is great but you don't want carrying it and bigger power adapter on a daily basis.

You loose few features with X61T: CPU is slightly slow, but you can still run 64-bit Win7, have VT instructions, you loose web-cam (need to carry portable one if you really need it). Otherwise you can fit any SATA drive and aditional SATA drive in ultrabase, can upgrade to WWAN, upgrade to 8GB of RAM. I can get about 5h out of battery on low brightness, wireless off taking notes with pen.

Stretch it to X61 if you can, since it can still be in warranty, you get 64-bit capable CPU, n wireless and some models can be upgraded to WWAN.

It's heavy, about 3.8 lb with the small battery. Also, the screen looks VERY grainy and the sensor layer further deteriorates image quality -- I actually prefer TN screens.

The X200s and X201s (1440x900) may suit your needs well. Also, take a look at the Sony Z Series, which has 1600x900 or 1920x1080 and weighs only 3 lb.

I have had an x60t for over 3 years now and love the screen. It gives you the most real estate screen resolution for anything in this form factor. I also like the fact that it is the traditional 4:3 ratio instead of widescreen. This is much better for documents and also when you go to tablet mode it is just a bit wider, but it makes a difference over the 12in widescreen X2xx tablets. I would compare the screen quality as closer to the T60p Flexview (which is my primary machine) over some other's I've owned like the 14inch T40 and T61, which were generally dim and washed out.

My one complaint on the X60t is the latch. After 3 years it does get loose every now and then. If they made this resolution with multitouch, that would be perfect...
