Flight Simulator 2010 on T40

#1 Post by Metallo » Tue Sep 14, 2010 6:58 pm

Hi folks,

the question is simple: will it run on my T40? Obviously, the graphic card is my concern.
Complete configuration is in my signature.

I do have a brand new Dell monitor ST2410 24IN FULL HD which I can use for a better resolution, but I guess the graphic card remains the biggest problem.

Has anybody tried it?
Suggestions other than installing the flight simulator on another PC?

Thank you
Alex

Don't think so.
The ATI Radeon 7500 is only DirectX 7 compatible.
MS FS requires: 32 MB DirectX 9 compatible video card

Radeon 7500 actually is DirectX 9compatible, but does not have DirectX 9 hardware support.

Here's the minimum requirements: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925724

NFS Underground 2 has pretty much the same minimum requirements (including 32MB DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics card) and it runs very smoothly on T40.

FSX should run, but obviously don't expect any spectacular graphics and eye-candy.

What he said. :) After reading RBS's statement I ran the DirectX Diag utility on my T42 with 7500; I was sure I had DX9 installed and indeed I do, but the program also warned me that while all tests for software passed, it couldn't run the hardware tests for that very reason.

Hi,

I installed the flight simulator, apparently it installed Directx 9.0, but when I start the game, I get the following message:

Flight Simulator is not working with your video card.
Verify that you have the latest drivers installed for your video card.
Flight simulator will now exit.

If I run the dxdiag I get:
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
DirectX Features: Not available (the three of them)

No other chance for me at this point?

Thanks guys
Alex

You could always get a docking station, and install a more advanced graphics card in there.

Can you better explain? How can you add a graphics card to a docking station?
I am definitely missing something here

I understand now, but eventually I should find one of those on the second hand market???

I am going to document myself, but any suggestion is welcome.

Tks

I am not sure, but I was pretty sure that my t41 could run all the dxdiag tests for directx9 in hardware. I know that my desktop can with it's dx7 card. Make sure that you have the most recent driver for the video card.

Another thing to remember is that if you play games like that you increase the risk of motherboard failure - thats what happened to my T41

Good luck.

Well, since I am on W7 home Premium, I run the driver provided by the OS, which is 6.1.7600.16385 of 2006-06-21.
Now, if I browse the Lenovo website, I cannot find a video drive for W7, maybe somebody here has already found a better one?

I tried the Fire GL T2 and the Radeon 9000, nothing changed :(

I forgot that you had w7 - I don't think the game will run since there is no good direct3d driver for windows 7 and mobility radeon 7500 from past experience.

With W7 pretty much no games will run D3D hardware accelerated on R7500. I got some older games (CoD, NFS Carbon etc)to run on W7 on my FireGL T2 equipped T41p since I found a driver that works well but performance is not as good as in XP.

If you want to run it on your T40, you have to use XP for that.

Hi,

...and if I want to use the docking station (I see on Ebay they sell pretty cheap) which graphic card would you recommend and which format? PCI?

Thank you
