93P4296 and not a 91P6984 :(

#1 Post by alkemyst » Tue Sep 14, 2010 7:59 pm

Ebay is proving to be full of idiots on Thinkpad parts.

It seems many are selling the 93P4296 as a 91P6984 (T60 LCD Cable w/ Bluetooth). The last seller hid the thinklight portion which is the telltale sign, but included a full FRU and other part numbers for the right part.

Sucks now my laptop is in pieces until the right cable comes. This is my second one.

I am ordering a new one.

Yeah sellers in general can't be trusted to send you the right part unless it is clearly pictured in the Ad or auction. That is why I try to give the business to members here using the Marketplace forum. I'd trust the members here any day over a random EBay seller.

It stinks...I have had great luck with ebay in the past, but this thinkpad stuff is all over the place. They basically lie about the FRU they have and position the item to obscure the identifying traits.

Yep. Pretty much. The other fun trick (popular with a *lot* of Chinese suppliers) is to ship you a "compatible" part and, when you complain, say "Oh, but it should work. Can't you just use that one instead?"

thinkpad_2007 is one of the few Chinese sellers I've found that doesn't pull that sort of trick, plus he always seems to have brand-new parts. Communication's always a bit tricky, but I haven't found him to be dishonest or careless yet.
