Viewing Mobile Broadband strength & connection in Access Con

#1 Post by phil81uk » Wed Sep 15, 2010 7:58 am

My X301 has the Erricson F3507g mobile broadband modem built in, with a Vodafone sim. I use Access Connections to connect.

When I open Acess Connections to connect it doesn't give me any details about whether there is a Vodafone signal, and what sort of connection is available. All I get is an image of a transmitter marked unknown - see here:

Sometimes it connects other times it doesn't saying that I need to sign up or am out of coverage. Is there any way of having it show me the strength of the signal and the connection type that is available (3G, EDGE, GPRS)? Seems like basic functionality that is missing.

I looked for alternative software for this modem but couldn't find any.

Even once I'm connected it doesn't always tell me what sort of connection I have (3G or EDGE). Sometimes it tells me when I mouse over the Vodafone transmitter icon. Other times it doesn't.

I set up the APN and can now connect using the Windows 7 connection manager. Access Connections does seem to now tell me the connection type that is available.

Will play with Access Connections at my home and office and see if it consistently tells me, and find any patterns as to when it does and doesn't.

Hi,
Just wondered if you use VMC software? And what you think of it if you do? I got the unknown as well but I think if you wait for a bit it recognises that a Mast is Vodafone (assuming settings are correct).
One thing is everytime I go to Activate Mobile Broadband in Lenovo's Internet Connection I get the same prompt telling me to sign up to the free 30 day trial. But I have my own PAYG unexpiring sim data card which is working.
