Round spot on the screen...
Round spot on the screen...
Hi all !
My t42 problems are solved yet (random crashes...) but I'm going back to France next week, and I will finally be able to deal with that.
Another annoying thing appeared: on the upper left corner, at about 10 cm from the left and 5 from the top (sorry, cm no inches...) I got some kind of round spot that appeared. It seems to be like something touching the screen from behind (a component or something like that ?).
It becomes very annoying when working with white screens (e.g. writing with MS Word) beause it really attracts the eye, just like if the screen had dirt on it.
Do you know what it could be and if IBM can do something with that ? (if so, they will have a lot of work with my T42 since I also want them to change the CD-DVDRW which is not working properly...)

That white spot is most likely compression damage on the rear of the LCD from a tight grip on that corner of the machine. Likely picking up the machine with one hand to put it into a carry case cause the damage. If that is the case (which I suspect it would be) warranty would not cover the damage.

I'm not so sure this is a product of abuse -- I think it could be a defect in some screen assemblies. I say this because I recent had a warranty replacement of my LCD and within days of the return of my machine, I developed one of these round spots, in approximately the same position as the original poster. Nothing had changed -- I carried my TP in the same bag, used it for the same things, moved it about the same way -- but this spot, and others since, developed on the new screen, whereas I had not gotten a single one in six months on the old screen.

If they are popping up all over the place .. that is a different story and yes I would send the unit in for verification and service.
