R50 AC/DC Adapter Plug In Replacement
R50 AC/DC Adapter Plug In Replacement
Good Morning
R50
I was curious if anyone has re and re'd the female portion on the left rear where the ac/dc adapter cable ( plug ) plugs into ? Sorry I don't know what that internal part is actually called . Is it solder onto the board ? Problem I have is the plugged in cable seems to be squirming out of it and disconnecting the laptop from power. I have looked at the plug itself but can't determine if that is worn or not . I suspect its the springy part in the female portion thats getting weaker.
Thanks for any help/tips
Jeff

It is called a DC jack, and it is screwed into the systemboard and it has a power connection to the systemboard as well. I'd guess your problem is the internal spring. It can be bent outward/downward with a bent paperclip or other similar tool.

DC jack ! Duh , thanks
Good idea , I will try from the outside first .
I always seem to want to try the hardest fix first . I was just prepared to disassemble the whole thing and warm up the soldering iron
Cheers

You don't need a soldering iron to disassemble a Thinkpad.
A small, good quality, Philips #P0 screwdriver is all you need.

Ya , I've had this thing apart a few times , the iron remark was me thinking that the on board dc jack was probably soldered to the mobo .
