Install Windows on Empty HDD

#1 Post by sachin » Fri Mar 11, 2005 7:27 am

Hello Friends,

I have Thinkpad T23 - 2647-8MA model.

Yesterday, Due to virus, I had lost my partition table. I am not able to recover it.

I had copied i386 to CD long before. I had done installation from that CD at that time service partition was their.

This time, Installation is giving me error “EULA – End User License Agreement not found”.

My thinkpad is Out of warranty and IBM had not given me recovery CDs.

So, Can you tell me, How can I reinstall the Windows XP License copy. Or. I have to forget license.

Or, From any place, I can download Recovery CDs.

Thanks in advance,

Regards,
Sachin

( Sorry friends, I had posted it in Thinkpad T Series forums also )

The i386 folder is not enough to install from. You would need to find the install floppies which would contain the EULA, IIRC. I think if you dig around Microsoft's website you can locate the floppy images. It has to do with having a machine that cannot boot from CDrom, even though yours can, you may need to format the system, copy the i386 folder to the HD, and then try the install from floppy. Of course you could try a remote install through the network....

I do not think you can get the recovery CDs from IBM on that machine due to it;s age, however there may be other locations to get them, like ebay or maybe even someone here has them.

Good luck

If you have a Licensed Windows Install CD, it's all you really need.

Hi,

Thanks for giving me reply.

I had gone thru this site.. It's really help me...

http://www.4saad.com/WhatsNew/Fresh_XP_ ... /index.htm

But in Step 10:

They had written :
1- Boot up your TP.

2- When you see the IBM screen, press F1. This will take you to the BIOS.

3- Select Security.

4- Select IBM Predesktop Area and Select Disable.
But I don't have such security menu under that.

And I don't have any partition in my machine..

Please help me.. otherwise.. I have to put thinkpad in garbage :(

Once again thanks for reply

Regards.

Whoa, hold on!

I'll mail you a FedEx box pre-paid, and you can deposit that Thinkpad in my "garbage" :-)

I don't think IBM has those anymore for your machine, due to age. That being said, post a WTB (Want TO Buy) for the receovery CDs in the sale forum.

I know that thing... But any other options...

Or, Should I install my distribution ( Ofcourse ) Linux on it. :) No windows.....

I am afraid.. why Microsoft and IBM had done such critical things ?

Try calling 800-IBM-SERV and give them the model number of your computer and see if they have the recovery CDs. They cost in the $35 to $45 range.

I don't know what there is to be afraid of but, anyway, why don't you install your Linux.
