Dead X41, recommendations?

Came up with a free X41 that appears to be dead (2528-5FU). AC adapter is fine, works on an A31p, but the X41 is completely dead. No lights at all. I stripped it down and hooked everything back to the bare MB. When I connect the power to it, the 2 small chips on the underside of the large inductor (front corner near HDD bay) get really HOT. Plastic shield over these chips is partly melted. This would mean dead MB. The CPU on this model is soldered, so that's useless too. No way to test the LCD or Ram. The DIMM is 512MB, PC2-4200. WiFi is an Intel 2915ABG type. I'm testing the HDD now, so far looks OK. Battery appears to have charge in it. The thing must have gone *poof* like a light bulb.

Question is, should I start looking for a replacement MB, or put it back together and toss it in the recycle pile?

X41 MB are plentiful and cheap. Replace it.

Should I avoid fleabay altogether? This listing appears to be the right one: IBM ThinkPad X41 12.1" MotherBoard 39T5517 Type 2525CTO.

The FRU that's in my system (39T5517) doesn't match the System Service Parts list for X41. It appears to be a 1.5Ghz, 512MB board. Does somebody have a full cross reference of all the MBs that will work in an X41? Will a X41T MB work in an X41?

The description at that link reads, "NEW! IBM Thinkpad X41 1.5GHz/2M Motherboard 42T0013". What does the 2M mean? 2 Meg of Ram??? The image looks like a MB with no Ram installed. I can't find 42T0013 listed as a spare on the Lenovo site. Did Lenovo stock motherboards with no Ram soldered on and then build them to suit? Or is that supposed to read "256M" and the Ram is on the other side? I'd prefer a 512M board, as there's only 1 DIMM socket. I see a wide range of prices, but I see a lot of X41T MBs.

I'd still like to know if a X41T MB will work in an X41 non-tablet. Is there any hardware difference on the MB? Will it have issues in an X41?

2MB is L2 cache on the Dothan CPU. These boards usually have 512MB RAM attached. Most of my X41/X41t has 2.5GB. No tablet MB will not work.
