T42 motherboard reliability

#1 Post by bcalmac » Fri Mar 11, 2005 3:33 pm

After a cople of month without any problem, my T42 would not power on, with or withour battery. I took it to a service center and they said the motherboard is defective and has to be replaced.

After a few days I checked on the status and they said they got the a new motherboard from IBM but that is defective as well and the requested yet another one :-(

This reminds me of the fact that my old T40 also needed to have the motherboard replaced because it would randomly freeze up.

Am I just unlucky or do the IBM motherboards lack in reliability?

FWIW, I've got a case with IBM where my motherboard is to be replaced once the warranty details are finalized (waiting for NBD onsite warranty to get activated).

I'm having "sound card" issues and random freezes that point to a defective motherboard.

Sounds familiar - like this and that?
It's a trick. Get an axe.
